The Bormann Boys (and the Adults They Hold Hostage)

My buddy Keith asked me to take some photos of his family, which consists of Keith, his beautiful wife, Jessica, and his super cute twin boys, Dylan and Carter (19 months old).  Seeing as how these tiny little bundles of mischief joy can be quite the divas (is the male form divos?), it was decided that the morning would be the best time to take photos.  Sunday morning, at 9am to be exact.  Yes, I’m normally a night person, and on weekends, my mornings are where I refill my sleep reservoir with much needed dreams of butterflies, rainbows, and morning dew.  I mean, who needs to see these things in person, when one can just dream about them?  In any case, I was able to drag myself out of bed, after an excellent night out with some friends who were visiting from out of town.  (Sidenote: I am also recovering from a slight cold, and as it turns out, Gin and Tonics and shots of Patron are actually not home remedies for the specific cold that I have.  I still have faith that it does cure something.  Probably just boredom.  And social awkwardness.)

More after the jump…

Julia’s Grad Photos

My friend, Julia, asked me to take some photos of her in her graduation gown (she’s getting her masters in reverse psychology… or, is she?).  Got out of work, and got home in time to receive a package from the FedEx guy.  It was a lens I bought used from a guy on the Fred Miranda forums.  The lens is a 30-100mm f/2.0 lens.  It’s my first super high grade Olympus lens, and I’m blown away at how huge this thing is!  It’s bigger than my 50-200mm f/2.8, but I suppose that shouldn’t be a surprise.  In any case, I was able to use it to take some great portraits today.  We started off outside, on the University of Minnesota campus.  It turned out to be an overcast evening, which worked out okay, as it provided some diffuse light, which means, no overexposed highlights, and harsh shadows to have to deal with.

In any case, here are a few photos I took today…

Still have more to go through, but I definitely learned more again today (a lot about light placement, and body positioning).  I’ll have to revisit this entry and insert my lessons learned, once I go through the rest of my photos…

That’s all for now.

Lessons Learned: I need to expose and light for eyes. I might try the brenizer method next time. I should try some hair lighting. And make sure I’m shooting from above so the subject keeps her chin up…

A few more shots from Matt & Melanie’s E-Session…

Wow, I sound so professional… Saying “E-Session” instead of Engagement Session.

Thushari’s Senior Pics

So, I’m probably going out of order here (well, I definitely know I am), but I’ll start with this “shoot” (I sound so photographer-y when I call it a “shoot”!)

It was one of my more recent outings, and I did it for a friend of a friend’s younger sister for free. Initially, when my friend asked me to do these senior pics, I was like, “Heck yeah! I just got these wireless flash triggers (Cactus V4’s, in case you’re wondering… yeah they were cheap), and these umbrella flash stands! I’ll be glad to try them out! We should totally go practice with them first though.” My friend agreed, and we talked about when we could practice, but then it never came to happen. Until my friend called and asked what I was doing on Sunday, and I thought she was calling about practicing, but when they showed up to drive up to the Stone Arch Bridge, I found out it was for the real thing.

Anyway, here are some of the photos:
